Thanks so much for checking out this post. Yes, I do love my Artifact Uprising photo books. They have more of a matte finish to the printing quality and paper feel. I’ve never used InDesign for an AU book, however, I’m assuming it can be done. I would export out as jpeg and I’m thinking you will have to export each individual page (not spread).

Make sure you get the page spec properly set up in your .indd file. You may want to check with customer support with AU before you get started.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!

I am an art student and I am trying to make a book of illustrated poetry. I’ve looked at several online printing companies such as blurb, and smartpress, and I’ve just recently stumbled on Artifact Uprising. As far as an illustrated book goes is Artifact Uprising (AU) any good? For instance in terms of layout can I lay things out in InDesign as a PDF and simply have them print my book?
Any advice or feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and have a great day.

The Artifact Uprising books are very elegant. I think you’ll love them. <3 In terms of these books opening up - I don't typically design lay-flat books so I'm comfortable with these books not opening up all the way. You just have to pay attention to what is placed close to the spine. And I have purchased 1 soft cover book with Artifact Uprising. I prefer the hard cover because it feels more substantial and will last longer. I hope this helps!

I have 2 questions: does the hardcover book with 40-100 pages open adequately, as in do you feel satified that it doesn’t lay flat but still opens enough to see the whole picture? Also, have you gotten a softcover book and did you like it as much as the hardcover? Thanks for your time! 🙂

I haven’t had this issue before – or heard of others with his issue. I recently made my In One Hundred Pages photo book with Artifact Uprising and the program worked fine for me. I typically export my images at 300 dpi which could be why I haven’t had this problem. I recommend contacting Artifact Uprising and see if they can help you.

I really want to love this software, but this issue with the chosen image being too low-res makes me want to scream.

In fact, almost every hi-res image I upload claims to be low-res…that is until I rotate the image to a position that renders the image useless (a portrait of a seated person isn’t right if it’s lying on its side – although doing just that will correct the low-res issue).

But this “flip my pic to fix it” weirdness only works in one or two of the already extremely limited page layout templates – all the other templates continue to shout LO-RES, thereby forcing you to choose an image box size that is inappropriate for your picture.

It seems the official workaround involves resizing every image to no more than 300 dpi, which is painfully time consuming.

What am I doing wrong here????

Thanks so much for responding. Yes, you are right – The last time I used their software, there was no way to edit the photos. I’ll check it out again…but that’s what I remember.

Like with filters or changing to BW?

And you can crop it once there.
Though hard to see, on bottom right corner of the picture and you will see an arrow.
Pictures can overlap too.
Some pages I put pictures into their layout and added others on top.
Once a picture is in a layout I haven’t found a way to delete it other than putting another picture in the spot.
